For our 4th and 5th graders at Tambran School, the answer is: a whole lot!

Through our OpenSciEd Structure and Function unit, students aren’t just memorizing science facts. They are physically experiencing how animals survive—building makeshift nests, navigating “danger” challenges, and foraging for food—while putting their English Language Arts skills into action to cite evidence, debate, and think like real scientists.

At Tambran School in San Juan del Sur, we teach the whole child for the whole world. Our approach is built on truly knowing each learner—how they learn, what motivates them, and what helps them feel safe to participate in school life. When children feel seen, understood, and supported, relationships strengthen, self-regulation grows, and learning becomes possible.
